Job description

Cardiac Electrophysiologist

This position is located at GV (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical, Jackson, MS in the Specialty Care Service Line. This is an Open Continuous Announcement and may be extended beyond the current closing date until the position is filled. Eligible applications will be referred at regular intervals, as additional vacancies occur and/or on an as-needed basis during the duration of the announcement. Once a selection is made and offer is accepted the announcement may close pending no additional vacancies.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be eligible for highly qualified candidates

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

The Cardiac Electrophysiologist is responsible for providing comprehensive subspecialty cardiovascular care with a focus on diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias and disorders of the heart's electrical conduction system for a diverse Veteran population in inpatient and outpatient settings. Major Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The incumbent performs electrophysiology consultations, interprets ECG and ambulatory rhythm monitoring.
  • Provides longitudinal arrhythmia and general cardiology follow-up, including medication management and coordination of care with referring and primary care providers
  • Major procedural duties include diagnostic electrophysiology studies, catheter ablations, and implantation and follow-up management of cardiac implantable electronic devices (pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices), including device programming and remote monitoring.
  • Participates in cardiology inpatient consult service and call coverage as assigned; utilizes telehealth modalities to enhance Veteran access to electrophysiology care; and serves as a core member of the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team, promoting safe, patient-centered, evidence-based practice.
  • Additional responsibilities include patient and family education, timely and accurate electronic medical record documentation, participation in quality improvement and patient safety activities, teaching and supervision of trainees as assigned, and maintenance of required board certification, licensure, and continuing medical education in cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
