Position Summary
The Science Laboratory Technician III is responsible for assisting in the setup, maintenance, and operation of science laboratory equipment and facilities. This position performs various laboratory tasks, such as preparing and organizing materials, conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and maintaining accurate records. The lab technician III ensures compliance with safety protocols and assist in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments. The Science Laboratory Technician III may provide guidance and training to lower-level technicians and collaborate with faculty and researchers in conducting experiments and research projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervises staff or student employees, which includes prioritizing, and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy, and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Oversees laboratory operations to maintain a safe, orderly, clean, and secure environment.
  • Sets up and dismantles complex experiments across multiple campuses.
  • Prepares and distributes instructional materials and equipment for laboratory sessions.
  • Collaborates with instructors to develop and enhance lab experiments and demonstrations.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of lab workspaces and equipment.
  • Calibrates, troubleshoots, and ensures proper use of laboratory equipment.
  • Manages inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment; conducts regular audits and reporting.
  • Assists with procurement processes, including researching vendors and obtaining quotes.
  • Maintains and repairs science equipment, computers, and printers; coordinates software updates and maintenance.
  • Coordinates receipt and distribution of purchased supplies and equipment.
  • Conducts annual inventory audits for capital assets and chemicals.
  • Provides safety training, hazard communication, and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinates equipment transfers between campuses.
  • Ensures availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adheres to safety regulations, OSHA standards, and wears required protective gear.
  • Transfers equipment between campuses.
  • Performs minor calibration, maintenance and repair of various types of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned at a similar level of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent

AND
  • Completion of post-secondary coursework in a science field or equivalent

AND
  • Two (2) years directly related experience in higher education or commercial science laboratory experience

Preferences:
  • 1 year of experience with Inventory Management and Systems Technology, and 1 year of experience managing budgets.

Ability to regularly work standard business schedule, Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00pm. Position is full-time, in-person/non-remote, 40 hr./week.
Primary Work Location: CNM Westside Campus, with occasional travel to additional campuses required. Intercampus mileage is eligible for reimbursement.
