THE POSITION

Located in Honesdale, PA, Wayne County Drug & Alcohol is seeking a full-time Prevention Specialist. Are you an enthusiastic, dedicated, and compassionate individual who is passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of youth? If so, this opportunity may be the perfect fit for you!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on planning and delivering prevention programs that support schools, families, and community groups. You will use evidence-based practices to educate, collaborate, and strengthen local prevention efforts. As a Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Delivery: Plan and implement evidence based prevention programs in school and community settings
  • Community Representation: Represent the agency on committees and collaborative groups to support prevention initiatives
  • Education Services: Develop and deliver training, lessons, and intervention services based on identified needs
  • Material Preparation: Prepare and distribute educational materials, lesson plans, and program resources for various audiences
  • Data Management: Maintain documentation and complete timely data entry into the prevention management system
  • SAP Support: Provide consultation, screenings, interventions, and support groups as part of Student Assistance Program responsibilities


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment
  • Start time and hours depend on school schedule. Employee works during school year, occasionally during other times, as needed. Employee may have overnight travel or out of county travel for meetings or training. Often irregular hours, including evenings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Education, the Social or Behavioral Sciences or related fields and one year experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.


Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
