Job description

Location: Acadia Eye Center – Brewer, Maine

Type: Full‑Time

Compensation: Competitive base pay + commission/bonus potential

About the Role:

Acadia Eye Center is looking for a personable, motivated Optician / Eyewear Sales Consultant to join our team. No optical experience is required — we’ll teach you everything you need to know about lenses, frames, and fittings. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, guide them through decisions, and create a great experience from start to finish.

If you’ve ever helped someone choose the perfect watch, upsold a bottle of wine, or turned a casual shopper into a loyal customer, you already have the instincts we’re looking for.

What You’ll Do:

You’ll be the person patients meet after their eye exam — the one who helps them feel confident, informed, and excited about their eyewear choices.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Greeting patients warmly and making the eyewear selection process enjoyable
  • Helping patients choose frames that match their style, face shape, lifestyle, and budget
  • Explaining lens options (anti‑glare, blue light, transitions, progressives, etc.) in simple, friendly language
  • Reviewing pricing and insurance benefits clearly and honestly
  • Taking basic optical measurements (we’ll train you — it’s quick to learn)
  • Placing orders, managing follow‑ups, and ensuring smooth pickups and adjustments
  • Meeting and exceeding sales goals while keeping the experience patient‑first
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and well‑stocked optical area

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 8:00AM- 4:00PM
  • No weekends or evenings

Qualifications:

  • A natural people‑person who makes others comfortable quickly
  • Confident and persuasive without being pushy
  • Motivated by goals and excited by commission opportunities
  • Reliable, polished, and energized by a busy day
  • Comfortable with point‑of‑sale systems and basic computer tasks
  • Coachable and eager to learn the optical side from the ground up

You do NOT need:

  • Optical experience
  • A license
  • A degree
  • Medical or healthcare background

If you’re great with people and enjoy helping them feel good about their choices, you’ll thrive here.

Benefits:

  • Paid, hands‑on training in all optical skills
  • Competitive base pay + commission/bonus opportunities
  • Clear growth path, including support toward optician licensure if desired
  • Full benefits: health insurance, paid time off, retirement plan
  • Eyewear and eye care benefits
  • A supportive, professional team environment
