Job description

Overview

Under direct guidance from the Telecom Manager, this position is a member of a Telecommunications support team. The Low Voltage Technician II will be responsible for implementing, supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting the enterprise structured wiring infrastructure. This position will also lead other team members through project activities.

Position Reports To: IT Telecom Manager


Responsibilities

  1. Maintains safe work environment by referencing and following codes, standards, legal regulations and assuring Life Safety and Infection Control measures are properly used and maintained when appropriate.
  2. Schedules and performs updates and upgrades on structured wiring and creates and maintains documentation to reflect change.
  3. Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots data cabling, including but not limited to: all categories UTP, Coaxial, speaker cable, and fiber optics.
  4. Installs wire molding and ENT tubing where needed, support structures (j-hooks, support rings, cable slings, cable tray, ladder rack) outlets, fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing, and labeling cables to Confluence Health Standards.
  5. Assists with the installation of IDF closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, and patch panels.
  6. Tests, certifies, and documents each cable install.
  7. Removes abandoned or replaced cables.
  8. Assists the Network Services team with the installations of wireless systems.
  9. Performs identification, isolation, and resolution of issues with documented solutions in a timely manner.
  10. Verifies services by testing circuits and equipment, identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  11. Assists in the development of implementation plans for requested projects while preparing documentation and assists Telecom leadership in the development and maintaining of defining standards for data cabling and IDF.
  12. Read and comprehend technical schematics and technical drawings.
  13. Proper use and care of electronic test equipment and tools associated with the trade.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 3+ years of experience installing, labeling, documenting, and certifying structured cable installations.
  • 1+ years installing and troubleshooting fiber optic cables.
  • Experience with: TCP/IP; routers/switches and wireless.
  • Current Electrical Trainee Card.

Desired:

  • Associate's Degree or above.

  • Previous work in a healthcare environment.
  • BICSI and/or SCTE and/or CompTIA (Network+) Certified.
  • Fiber Optics Installation/Training Certification.
