Job description

MSA is seeking a Graduate Engineer II – Mechanical to support the planning and design of municipal infrastructure projects focused on wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and related mechanical systems. This role builds on foundational engineering experience and provides increasing responsibility in project planning, design, and construction support.

The Graduate Engineer II works closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to support design development, field investigations, and project execution while continuing to build technical expertise and professional judgment.

This position is either hybrid or onsite at any of our Wisconsin offices.

Mechanical Engineering Design
  • Assist with the planning and design of wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and mechanical process systems

  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses related to mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, and process infrastructure

  • Support preparation of design reports, technical memoranda, and engineering documentation

  • Assist with development of mechanical layouts, specifications, and construction drawings

  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and structural teams to integrate mechanical systems into project designs

Project Support
  • Execute assigned engineering tasks with increasing independence while applying sound engineering principles

  • Assist Project Managers and Project Engineers with project planning, scheduling, and task coordination

  • Support development of cost estimates, project documentation, and technical reports

  • Monitor assigned task schedules and communicate progress or potential issues

  • Participate in project team meetings and contribute technical input

Field Work & Construction Support
  • Conduct field investigations and site visits to collect engineering data

  • Support construction observation and assist with documentation of project progress

  • Coordinate with contractors and field personnel during project implementation

  • Assist with reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, and construction documentation

  • Support troubleshooting and technical problem-solving during construction

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with internal project teams to ensure high-quality design deliverables

  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to technical discussions

  • Support mentoring and collaboration with entry-level staff

  • Maintain awareness of project budgets, schedules, and quality expectations

  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, documentation, and engineering practices


Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

Experience
  • 2+ years of relevant post-graduate engineering experience

  • Experience supporting municipal infrastructure, water, or wastewater projects preferred

  • Experience using CADD/BIM, GIS, and engineering analysis software preferred

Skills
  • Understanding of engineering principles related to mechanical systems and municipal infrastructure

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and support design documentation

  • Strong technical writing and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple project tasks and priorities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Licensure
  • Engineer in Training (EIT/EI) certification required or ability to obtain

The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $112,500, with higher compensation possible for candidates with significant experience and exceptional qualifications.
