Project Overview:

Bechtel's Infrastructure and Power is an exciting and growing business unit that is actively involved with large scale combined cycle projects and behind-the-meter gigawatt scale microgrids for delivering power to Artificial Intelligence (AI) datacenters. The diverse portfolio also includes renewable energy projects encompassing Solar, Wind and Pumped Storage Hydro. Job Summary:

As Senior Structural engineer, you will be part of the functional team in the US that will provide oversight to project execution teams.  You will be involved in client interface and coordination of the structural design for multiple projects. Your recommendations and technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s structural aspects are met. 

Travel Requirement:  This position will involve business travel to project sites across the United States and Canada, as well as to our engineering offices in India.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.  Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation wtih functional or project leadership. #LI-RM1 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Plans and conducts independent Structural work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit​ 
  • Provide oversight and review of the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Structural components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs)​ 
  • Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, change orders, and bid summaries for the project to which assigned 
  • Provide oversight and review ofDesigns structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering 
  • Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements 
  • Originates and checks complex Civil/Structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions 
  • Develops conceptual designs for Civil/Structural engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements​ 
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting​ 
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data​ 
  • Mentors Civil/Structural engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​ 
  • Leads constructability reviews 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
  • Has a US Professional Engineering License
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Recognized as advanced contributor with specialized skill set​
  • Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline​
  • Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of complex issues in creative and effective ways
  • Minimum 10 years working on Combined Cycle Power projects, along with a good knowledge of industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the Civil/Structural discipline.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication in English language.
