Job description

Under the supervision of the Designated Certifying Official, you will be responsible for ensuring the activity's cranes are inspected and tested in accordance with the requirements of the NAVFAC P307 and NAVFAC P300, and that the cranes and material handling equipment (MHE) are safe to use for its intended purpose. Assist the designated certifying official with the crane programs (20 - 500 tons) primary responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the weight handling equipment (WHE) program and ordnance handling equipment (OHE); perform the final check for all testing and certifications conducted on the crane and MHE; address questions involving testing and certifications of cranes and MHE.; ensure the safety and reliability of WHE by making sure that repairs are properly performed, and the required paperwork is completed correctly in accordance with NAVFAC P307 and NAVFAC P300. Perform accident investigations and field quality inspections

Read electric/hydraulic and drawing schematics. Establish equipment history binders and/or electronic files. Prepare written reports and proof crane alteration requests.

Provide input on maintenance plans, support program reviews and attend meetings. Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned. Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent.

Must have a minimum of five (5) years working directly in WHE, MHE, OHE, as a technician, supervisor, or manager. Must have experience in the maintenance, repair, testing, certification, and operations on all types of weight handling equipment such as mobile hydraulic truck crane with a capacity up to 125 tons; articulating boom trucks and telescopic boom trucks up to a capacity of 30 tons; facility type cranes such as bridge crane, monorail cranes with package hoist, electric, pneumatic and manual powered hoist, rigging gears and equipment, various types of miscellaneous lifting equipment and aerial platform trucks. Must have experience in planning and operations of complex lifts (critical lifts).

Must be readily available to resolve any crane and MHE issues that arise. Ability to obtain Navy Crane Center Training Designation Letter for NCC Courses. Must pass all NAVFAC P307 NCC courses to include the Certifying Official course within 180 days from date of hire.

Must pass NKO ORM courses within 90 days for hire date. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have strong customer service skills - communication and written skills to in person customer partnering.

Must be able to pass physical requirements such as: climbing ladders, binding, stooping, lifting at least 50 pounds, and standing longer than two hours. Must be able to work at heights and within hot and wet environment conditions. Must be able to follow and maintain company and government procedures, policies, and training requirements.

Must be knowledgeable of NAVFAC P300/P307, OSHA, ANSI, EPA, FAR, DOT, and Navy and federal government requirements, PWS requirements, and ASME. Must have strong human relations and sound decision-making skills to resolve issues. Desired: o Degree from a technical institute on crane technology or related subjects, and/or Engineering degree related to crane technology.
