Job description

GUIDE TRAINEE, HISTORICAL MONUMENT - SAN LUIS OBISPO COAST DISTRICT / HEARST CASTLE
"Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program)."
This position works under the direct supervision of the Guide II Supervisors and under the general direction of the Museum Director. The reporting location is the Hilltop Guide Section Office at Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument.
The duties for the Guide Trainee will include conducting guided tours of the monument buildings and grounds. The tours/ interpretation provided to the public should encompass the historic, artistic, cultural, architectural, and natural aspects of the monument. Occasionally will provide roving and stationary interpretation to the public on the monument grounds and other areas as needed. The incumbent will also diplomatically convey monument rules and regulations to the public. They will do so in a way to maintain the integrity of the monument and aid in the protection of the facility from theft, damage, and vandalism.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions
Work shifts ranging in length from 4 to 10.5 hours, depending on scheduling and operational need. This position requires working outdoors in any kind of weather. All duties will be performed in compliance with state and district health and safety plans and policies.
