Job description

Dental Hygienist

The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of Georgia to protect lives and promote healthy lifestyles in diverse communities statewide. We are committed to preventing disease, injury, and disability; promoting health and well-being; and preparing the State of Georgia for responding to disasters.

Provides preliminary screening and notes potential problems. Examines head, neck, and oral areas for signs of oral disease. Provides dental hygiene treatment/service as prescribed by dentist supervisor. Treatment may include x-rays, prophylaxis, scaling where indicated, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. Instructs client in oral hygiene and plaque control programs. Prepares clients, sterilizes instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and cleans room. Records monthly data. Works with all aspects of school-based program including dental health education programs and health fairs. Provides administrative support for dental prevention program. Follows clinical guidelines of record documentation and HIPPA regulations. Practices infection control according to clinical protocol and OSHA regulations.

Associate degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university and current Georgia dental hygienist license and two (2) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year experience at the lower-level Dental Hygienist 2(HCT011) or position equivalent. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
