Job description

Release Train Engineer, Lead

The Opportunity:

The Lead Release Train Engineer (RTE) serves as the senior Agile execution leader responsible for coordinating delivery activities across multiple Agile Release Trains supporting approximately twenty cross-functional development, integration, test, operations, and sustainment teams delivering mission-critical ground system capabilities. This position provides leadership and oversight for Release Train Engineers and Scrum Masters while establishing execution standards, planning discipline, dependency management processes, and program-level execution visibility.

The Lead RTE partners closely with Product Owners, Systems Engineering, Operations, and Program Leadership to ensure alignment between priorities, commitments, dependencies, and delivery objectives across the program.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Lead, mentor, and provide oversight for Release Train Engineers and Scrum Masters supporting multiple Agile Release Trains.

  • Establish and maintain Agile execution standards, governance processes, and best practices across the program.

  • Coordinate Program Increment (PI) Planning activities across multiple Agile Release Trains and teams.

  • Facilitate identification, management, and resolution of cross-team dependencies, execution risks, and delivery impediments.

  • Drive synchronization across development, integration, test, deployment, operations, and sustainment organizations.

  • Ensure Agile execution data, workflows, and planning artifacts within Jira accurately reflect program status and commitments.

  • Support configuration management and governance of the technical execution baseline maintained within Jira.

  • Develop and maintain program-level execution metrics, delivery reporting, forecasting, and program health assessments.

  • Monitor team execution performance, capacity utilization, commitment achievement, and delivery trends.

  • Partner with Product Owners and Systems Engineering to ensure priorities and execution plans remain aligned with program objectives.

  • Facilitate Agile leadership forums, Scrum of Scrums, ART synchronization activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Escalate significant execution risks, dependency concerns, schedule impacts, and resource constraints to program leadership.

  • Coach Agile teams, Scrum Masters, and Release Train Engineers on Agile execution practices, planning discipline, and continuous improvement.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience supporting large-scale Agile software, systems engineering, or operational programs

  • 3+ years of experience serving as a Release Train Engineer within a SAFe or large-scale Agile environment

  • Experience leading Program Increment Planning activities, managing cross-team dependencies, and coordinating delivery across multiple Agile teams

  • Experience leading, mentoring, or supervising Release Train Engineers and Scrum Masters

  • Experience developing Agile execution metrics, delivery reporting, forecasting, and program health assessments

  • Experience utilizing Jira to support Agile planning, execution, reporting, workflow management, and technical baseline governance

  • Knowledge of Agile Release Train operations, dependency management, risk management, and large-scale Agile execution

  • TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
