Service Technician Job Summary: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on trailer, diagnosing and fixing issues related to brakes, tires, steering, suspension, and other trailer systems.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose needed repairs based customer concerns. Provide estimates for repairs to customers. With approval, complete repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and preventative maintenance on brakes, tires, steering, suspension, and other mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Install accessories and make upgrades or modifications on new and used trailers.
  • Ensure trailers meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications. Pointing out concerns to customers, recommending needed repairs.
  • Address customer concerns, provide service updates, and work with customer to resolve concerns.
  • Accurately complete work orders, test trailers – pulling behind a vehicle when necessary – for accuracy of the completed repair document repairs and maintain records of service performed.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements while performing work.
  • Unload freight trucks for trailer and parts deliveries.
  • Assemble, test, and wash trailers as they arrive.
  • Assist other service technicians as needed.
  • Assist in other areas and perform other duties, as needed. (This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities required for this job.)

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends and overtime, as needed.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions on retail trailer lots.
  • Ability to regularly bend, stoop, twist, and lift while completing repairs and connecting trailers to vehicles.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment where require.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent demonstrated skills and experience required.
  • Equipment repair experience. Experience in trailer maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems, proficiency with basic welding, cutting torches and electric hand tools is required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record in order to drive company owned vehicles for testing of trailer for thoroughness and completeness of the trailer repair.
  • Ability to work independently and in small teams, good communication skills (both written and verbal), and attention to detail are essential.
  • Highly motivated.
