Job Summary
The Loudoun County Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure (DTCI) is seeking a self-motivated Senior Traffic Engineer on the traffic engineering team. Located within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Loudoun County has been recognized as one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. This position will:
• Be responsible for managing multimodal safety and operational studies throughout the County, including but not limited to corridor, intersection improvement, and bicycle / pedestrian connectivity studies, as well as speed management, cut-through traffic, parking management, and shared mobility device initiatives.
• Work with state and local transportation agencies.
• Have the ability to assess and understand technical and analytical reports, including engineering drawings and site plans, leading to data-driven solutions.
• Effectively convey complex technical ideas verbally and in writing.
• Be responsible for making sound engineering recommendations and providing technical engineering alternatives and solutions to difficult and complex roadway safety and operational problems based on engineering principles that comply with federal, state, and local laws, policies and guidelines.
The successful candidate must:
• Possess strong project management skills and leadership qualities.
• Have technical knowledge in multimodal transportation with a proven track record of successfully working with stakeholders.
• Have knowledge of traffic analysis and traffic simulation software.
• Be dependable and customer-service focused.
• Have excellent communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
• Be able to reason and solve problems in a collaborative manner.
• Be able to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
This position is eligible for partial telework in accordance with County and Department policies. Flexible scheduling is also available to address required meeting attendance outside of normal business hours.
This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with engineering coursework or degree related to assigned area; three (3) years of professional engineering and construction management work experience of a complex nature with direct design as well as administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
The position requires occasional attendance at night meetings to present information to the Board of Supervisors and/or other stakeholder groups.
Valid driver's license is required.
Employment is contingent upon successful background check completion, including criminal, credit, and driving record checks.
