JOB TITLE: TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN DESIGNER

INTRODUCTION:

4-Horn Traffic & Barricade is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and safety minded Traffic Control Plan Designer. 4-Horn Traffic & Barricade offers competitive wages and benefits. PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Traffic Control Plan Designer is responsible for designing and creating traffic control plans to meet specific needs of customers utilizing TxDOT and MUTCD specifications to achieve desired effects. This is a production position requiring hands on knowledge and usage of tools and equipment to produce finished products.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Works with engineers, customers, project managers, and supporting project documentation required for individual projects
  • Develops detailed design drawings and specifications by preparing sample layouts and Traffic Control Plans
  • Reviews construction documents and jobsites to create Traffic Control Plans
  • Develops plans for traffic control layouts from instructions
  • Uses software (Invarion RapidPlan) to create full-scale and detailed traffic control plans
  • Provides verbal and written reports as needed for traffic control plans and designs
  • Revises plans based on customer, engineer, municipality, and TxDOT feedback.
  • Prioritizes projects based on company and customer needs
  • Vision sufficient to read diagrams, manuals reports, rules, regulations, laws and plans
  • Create professional traffic control layouts and support project documentation
  • Obtains approval of MOT plans by submitting a rough layout for approval to state agencies
  • Prepares specifications for work to be performed by others
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must have good communication skills with all level of employees
  • Must have good customer service skills, with a helping attitude
  • Must be detail-oriented and safety minded
  • Must have excellent time management and deadline-oriented mindset
  • Preferred 1-3 years of experience in traffic control planning, construction plan review, civil drafting, engineering support, or related experience
  • Preferred experience with Invarion RapidPlan, Microsoft Office, and plan design software
  • Knowledge of TxDOT standards and the MUTCD preferred
