3Degrees

Portland, ME

Full-time

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

Every day, we work together for what matters - bold, swift, and equitable climate action.

ABOUT THE ROLE

At 3Degrees, we help organizations large and small take action toward a decarbonized, prosperous future. The Environmental Markets (EM), Trade Operations team oversees all commodity supplies coming in and out of 3Degrees, and manages all operations behind the market transactions.  The Trade Operations Analyst is an integral team member and will contribute in all stages of the contract creation and management, inventory management, and database record-keeping processes.  This position supports the EM team in delivering and receiving supply while ensuring all contractual obligations are met by both parties.

This is a full-time, exempt role reporting to our Trade Operations Manager, EM. We value camaraderie, team collaboration, and the benefits of in-person connection, while offering flexibility. For this role, we prefer candidates to join us in a voluntary, flexible hybrid work style in our Portland, Maine or New York City office.

For exceptional remote candidates, we strongly prefer those located in states where we are currently eligible to hire: CA, OR, NY, WA, ME, TX, CO, MI, FL, MA, MN, VA, DC, GA, UT, and IL. While we prioritize candidates in, or open to relocating to, these states, we may consider outstanding remote candidates from other US states. Please note that hiring in a new state would involve evaluating the implications of establishing a new hiring presence there. Additionally, 3Degrees does not provide relocation assistance for this position.

Please Note: 3Degrees does not provide sponsorship or work authorization assistance; therefore, pre-existing right-to-work status is a prerequisite to be considered for this position.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You'll be part of the solution to drive positive environmental impact through meticulous accuracy and high attention to detail in the delivery and supply of our environmental commodity business activity. You'll play a key role in streamlining our operational workflows, bringing a fresh set of eyes to automate processes and help our team scale. Your contributions will empower our team to achieve greater efficiency and maintain high-quality outputs even during periods of heavy volume. Responsibilities include the following:

  • Accurately execute receipts and deliveries across various commodities and trading platforms while maintaining a calm, focused approach under high-volume pressure.
  • Maintain precise inventory by ensuring transactions are aligned across the internal database (Artemis) and third-party tracking systems.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for counterparties regarding trading and contractual obligations, ensuring clear and professional communication.
  • Drive process innovation by collaborating with other Analysts and the Technology team to enhance tools and automate manual workflows.
  • Demonstrate system agility by quickly mastering current platforms and leading the transition to a new Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system.
  • Support internal clients as a subject matter expert on internal platforms and databases to provide teams with transactional or contract-specific details.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Accounting, Contracts, and Trading teams to ensure all documentation is received for proper trade execution.
  • Support larger team projects including reconciliations, audits, data analysis, and the trialing of new technological tools.
  • Challenge the status quo by identifying discrepancies and suggesting continuous improvements to increase productivity and reduce risk.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS

In this role, you will work alongside the other members of the trade operations team and the larger Environmental Markets team to achieve the group goal of remaining a fast, efficient, accurate, risk-reduced, and responsive operations team. Success factors specific to this role include:

Within 30 days,

  • Develop a practical working knowledge of key tools including our SQL-based database (Artemis), email ticketing system, and commodity registries.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of retail and wholesale transaction processes, accurately tracking the delivery and receipt of environmental commodity supply.
  • Display a firm understanding of basic trading terminology and rules.
  • Begin building relationships within the Environmental Markets team and across key stakeholders.

Within 90 days,

  • Demonstrate system agility by maintaining proficiency in Artemis while actively onboarding and transitioning to our new ETRM platform.
  • Proficiently manage transaction details and products within databases with minimum supervision.
  • Actively execute deliveries, receipts, invoices, and bills autonomously.
  • Engage cross-functionally with Trading, Accounting, Contracts, and Sales to resolve inquiries or data discrepancies.

Within 180 days,

  • Exhibit mastery of high-volume management, performing all receipt and delivery tasks to a top-level standard while remaining unfazed by urgent demands.
  • Maintain high data accuracy and troubleshooting capabilities within the database and associated processes.
  • Master clear, professional communication with customers and team members to identify potential operational risks.
  • Contribute to operational efficiency by identifying manual workflows that can be automated to support team scaling.

Within 1 year,

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and reliable counterpart for internal and external stakeholders regarding all delivery and receipt tasks.
  • Drive technical innovation by partnering with the technology team to trial new tools, troubleshoot errors, and implement software improvements.
  • Comfortably navigate and manipulate large data sets within the trading database to ensure total data integrity.
  • Optimize the status quo by successfully implementing at least one process improvement that significantly reduces manual effort or time.
