Job description

As an Analyst on the Electronic Trading Algorithmic Development team within Financial Markets at National Bank Financial, you will help build and evolve our electronic trading capabilities. We are seeking motivated professionals who enjoy working in small teams and are passionate about building and dealing with complex engineering problems. You will work closely with traders and quantitative colleagues to deliver production-ready solutions across the full lifecycle, from strategy design and implementation to testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement. The scope includes platform and analytics development, including trading analytics tooling, as well as machine learning capabilities for data modelling, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and measurable trading outcomes. Your role Design and implement trading strategies in close collaboration with traders. Build and enhance pre-trade and post-trade analytics data workflows and tools to improve trading decisions. Utilize machine learning capabilities to strengthen market analysis and uncover actionable insights. Optimize and refine existing strategies to improve performance and robustness. Develop and maintain unit/integration tests. Provide second-level support for the trading platform, including troubleshooting and incident follow-up. Share knowledge across the team and with business partners through documentation and reviews. Stay current on market and engineering trends; promote modern development practices. Your team You will join a team of 11 colleagues on the Electronic Trading Algorithmic Development team and report to the Managing Director of Electronic Trading. You will gain hands-on exposure to FX and Fixed Income electronic trading and the systems that power pricing, execution, and analytics. Prerequisites Required Degree in CS or Engineering (BSc with 3 years or MSc with 1 of relevant experience). Strong development experience in at least one of Java /C++/python or JavaScript. Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical partners. Ability to gather requirements and translate them into clear designs and deliverable plans. Preferred / nice to have Experience with low-latency and/or real-time systems. Knowledge of Canadian and/or U.S. financial market microstructure. Experience with machine learning and/or cloud-native application development. Experience developing market-making, systematic trading, or electronic execution strategies.
