Position Overview

The Broadband Underground Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of buried drop conduits and fiber optic cables to customersโ€™ homes and businesses. The Technician should always be punctual, proactively communicate with subscribers and supervisors, be prepared to accomplish varying tasks, and provide respectful, patient, and thorough explanations of the services installed to ensure a best-in-class customer experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate vibrating plow, trencher, stick bore, digging with shovels and other equipment.
  • Ensure work sites are restored to the same condition upon job completion as it was before starting.ย 
  • Safely transport, secure, handle, and install conduits, fiber cable reels, pedestals, vaults, and equipment.
  • Read and interpret network maps, plats, prints and other documents
  • Test, troubleshoot, and resolve issues during installation and maintenance work.
  • Thoroughly and patiently answer all questions from subscribers or neighbors when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe worksite to ensure the safety of crew members, the public, and underground utilities.
  • Understand utility locate markings, safe clearances, and procedures for potholing existing utilities
  • Understand and follow OSHA and Company safety requirements while completing tasks.ย 
  • Maintain vehicle and equipment and conduct routine inspections to ensure safe operation.
  • Maintain a clean interior/exterior of vehicles/equipment, with daily, weekly and monthly inspections.
  • Adhere to safe driving practices and follow Company standards, and state and local laws.
  • Other responsibilities or duties as assigned.

  • 1+ year of previous cable installation experience preferred

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Current valid driverโ€™s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy

  • This is a safety sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol testing
  • Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends preferred

  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable and sustained use of your arms, legs, and moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, sitting, standing, lifting/handling of materials up to 75lbs, and safely negotiating elevated work and small spaces; must be able to wear required PPE
