Who we're looking for

Toyota's Manufacturing Parts Operations is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Packaging Design Engineer.

The primary responsibility of this role is to work with vehicle design to minimize cost impact of part shape changes, manage the development of Tier 1 packaging from vehicle project inception through launch, and support any design concerns or kaizen opportunities after launch.

Reporting to the Packaging Design Manager, the person in this role will support the Manufacturing Parts Organization objective to design packaging to safely deliver parts at the lowest possible environmental impact and cost while ensuring part quality.

What you'll be doing

  • Work closely with vehicle design team to minimize cost impact of part design changes.

  • New packaging design, development and approval

  • Support KPI management in the way of safety, quality & cost reduction.

  • Support the development and manage a master schedule to ensure packaging is available to support vehicle launch.

  • Work with stakeholders in vehicle plants to ensure packaging design is integrated into production and delivery plans.

  • Work with supply chain stakeholders, including suppliers, conveyance teams, and packaging fabricators, to design optimal Tier 1 packaging that integrates seamlessly with automation.

  • Support ad hoc packaging studies to assist other groups in decision making.

  • Manage model change budget and gain approval for packaging expenditures

What you bring

  • Engineering degree in Packaging, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or 1+ years of equivalent engineering work experience.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

  • High level proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software.

  • Develop and follow operating procedures and measure results utilizing KPIs.

  • Daily overtime 15%-25% with increased amount during model change activities.

  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally up to 50%.

  • Project management skills.

  • Toyota production system (TPS) experience and understanding.

  • Budget management experience.

  • Supply chain experience.

  • CAD/CATIA data manipulation experience.

  • Packaging design experience.

  • Completion of TBP & JKK

  • Knowledge of the packaging development processes and how it integrates into the NAMC.

  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, both at TMNA and NAMCs
