Position Description

The Department of Foundational Biomedical Sciences at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position. (Assistant or Associate Professor) in Pathology/Pathophysiology. We seek an accomplished medical educator with a demonstrated ability to teach and integrate concepts of disease mechanisms, pathology, and pathophysiology into a pre-clinical medical curriculum.

This faculty member will contribute to the delivery of our integrated, systems-based curriculum for osteopathic medical students (COM) and postbaccalaureate students in the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences (MSMHS) program. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to innovative, learner-centered teaching, the ability to connect foundational science to clinical reasoning and patient care, and a track record (or strong potential) for scholarly contributions in medical education or related fields.

Primary Responsibilities

Faculty in the Department of Foundational Biomedical Sciences are expected to contribute to the tripartite mission of the University: teaching, scholarship, and service. Specific responsibilities include:

Teaching
  • Teaching pathology- and pathophysiology-related content across organ systems in an integrated, case-based curriculum.
  • Collaborating with basic science and clinical faculty to ensure alignment of foundational concepts with clinical application.
  • Developing and delivering interactive, evidence-based instructional materials that promote active learning.
  • Participating in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Engaging in scholarly activity and contributing to departmental and university service.
Research/Scholarly Activity
  • Maintain scholarly activity through educational research, biomedical research, and dissemination of scholarship through publication in peer-reviewed journals and other formats.
  • Collaborate on research initiatives and pursue intramural or extramural funding, as applicable.
  • Interest in medical education scholarship or contribute to interdisciplinary research, especially in areas of microbiology or pathophysiology.
Service
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
  • Participate in faculty development, student recruitment, admissions interviews, and other institutional service.
  • Contribute to educational innovations, student engagement, and community outreach aligned with the TUC mission.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Have a doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent) with advanced training or significant teaching experience in pathology, pathophysiology, or related biomedical sciences.
  • Are committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment and mentoring diverse learners.
  • Value interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in medical education.
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential for scholarly contributions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-teaching environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching pre-clinical medical students, with the ability to integrate foundational science into clinical reasoning.
  • Prior teaching experience in microbiology, or pathology, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to lead and develop courses.
  • Familiarity with NBOME/COMLEX or USMLE-style exam formats and curricular blueprints.
  • Experience using educational technologies (e.g., Canvas, ExamSoft, Lecture recording platforms).
  • Interest in implementing and developing active learning methodologies.
  • Interest in contributing to educational scholarship or interdisciplinary research
