Winchester- Clark County Tourism Commissionย Executive Director Job Descriptionย 

The Executive Director severs as the chief administrative officer of the Winchester- Clark County Tourism Commission and is responsible for carrying out the policies and goals established by the Commission. The position provides strategic leadership while overseeing the Commissionโ€™s operations, marketing efforts, financial management, community partnerships, visitor services, and tourism initiatives.ย 

The ideal candidate is an energetic, self- motivated leader who is equally comfortable building community relationships, developing marketing strategies, managing operations and representing Winchester- Clark County throughout Kentucky and beyond. This position requires initiative, sound judgment, strong organizational skill, and a genuine passion for growing tourism and promoting Winchester- Clark County as a premier visitor destination.ย 

Primary Responsibilitiesย 

The Executive Director shall:ย 

  • Provide strategic leadership and implement the policies, goal, and annual Program of Work established by the Tourism Commission.ย 
  • Develop and oversee destination marketing efforts through advertising, digital marketing, public relations, visitor publication, websites, social media and promotional campaigns.ย 
  • Promote Winchester- Clark County as visitor destination by building and maintaining strong relationships with local businesses, attractions, community organizations, government agencies tourism partners and the Kentucky Department of Tourism.ย 
  • Represent the Tourism Commission at meetings, conferences, trade shows, community events, media opportunities and other public functions.ย 
  • Develop, support, and promote tourism initiatives, programs, partnerships and events that increase visitation and strengthen the local tourism economy.ย 
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Tourism Commission and Visitor Center to ensure effective visitor services and efficient office administration.ย 
  • Prepare and administer the Commissionโ€™s annual budget and oversee bookkeeping, payroll, financial reporting, audits, grant, and other administration.ย 
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for the Tourism Commission, City Commission, Fiscal Court, state agencies and funding organizations as required.ย 
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, interns and volunteers, while fostering a professional, collaborative work environment.ย 
  • Ensure the Commission Operates in compliance with Kentucky Open Meetings Laws, Kentucky Revised Statutes, Special Purpose Government Entity requirements and all other applicable laws and policies.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position as assigned by the Tourism Commission.ย 
Desired Qualificationsย 

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:ย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred in marketing, business, tourism, communications, public administration or a related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.ย 
  • Experience in tourism marketing, communications, hospitality, nonprofit management, economic development or a related field.ย ย 
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational and project management abilities.ย 
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Experience with website management, digital marketing, social media and general office technology.ย 
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with businesses, elected officials, community organizations, tourism partners and public.ย 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems and independently with sound judgment.ย 
Work Environmentย 

Work is generally preformed in an office setting regular interaction with the public and occasional travel throughout the community and state, Attendance at meetings, community events and tourism functions outside of normal business hours is expected. Duties may require occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.ย 

Bachelor's degree preferred in Marketing, Business, Tourism, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience in tourism, marketing, communications, hospitality, nonprofit management, economic development, or a related field.

Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and project management abilities.

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.

Ability to build effective working relationships with businesses, elected officials, community organizations, tourism partners, and the public.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and work independently with sound judgment.
