Position: Full-Time Lecturer, Outdoor Recreation and Tourism (1-Academic Year 2026-2027 appointment, renewable)
Effective Date: August 17, 2026 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Full-Time Lecturer B (Academic Year) classification salary is $74,652 to $158,688 per academic year (paid as 12 monthly payments). The anticipated hiring range is $66,084 to $72,500 per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Recreation and Leisure Studies Department invites applications for a full-time Lecturer to teach courses in the Outdoor Recreation and Tourism concentration of the BA in Recreation, as well as core Recreation Management courses. The successful candidate will bring a blend of industry and academic experience and will play a key role in growing the concentration by developing and maintaining partnerships with Southern California outdoor recreation and tourism industry organizations to support student internships, applied projects, and enhanced career pathways. Example Classes/Courses: Intro to Travel and Tourism, Fundamentals Digital Online Media Strategy, Dynamics of Outdoor Recreation, Recreation and the Ocean Environment, Management of Organized Camps, Outdoor Education Interpretation, Recreation Resource Management, Travel Tourism Resort Rec Management, Convention/Conference Planning.
Required Qualifications:
- M.A./M.S. in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, Travel, Tourism or related discipline. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the master's degree by August 1, 2026.
- Earned B.A./B.S. in Recreation, parks, tourism or a related discipline
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the college level
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching or training excellence at the college or professional level
- Experience working successfully with a diverse student population
- Demonstrated commitment to/experience of student mentorship
- At least two years of related professional work experience (Outdoor Recreation/Travel and Tourism)
- Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Outdoor Recreation, Resource Management, Tourism, Social Media Marketing, Sustainability. Instruction is primarily in-person. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
- Develop relationships with internal and external partners to further expand student opportunities in Outdoor Recreation, Travel and Tourism industry
- Participate in service to the department, college, university, profession, and community
