Job description

SUMMARY OF COMPANY

Southwest Shipyard, LP provides gas freeing and cleaning services, steaming, and flaring services, Barge and boat repair, Surface preparation and painting, water treatment and new construction services to the commercial and government marine industry. Southwest Shipyard owns and operates four (4) shipyards in South Texas with direct deep-water access to the Gulf of Mexico. WORK SCHEDULE:

Channelview - 1st Shift

Monday through Friday 6:00am- 4:30 pm 

Sunday 6:00am-2:30pm

Role and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are to provide work crews with tool room material, supplies, and small tools, as required, in a timely and efficient manner. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Assist tool room Leadman in storing and maintaining tool room inventory, including monitoring
  • quantity levels to meet yard production requirements.
  • Respond to radio calls from work crews.
  • Pull and prepare material/equipment for runners.
  • Complete issue tickets and other documentation on materials and equipment used by various work
  • crews/departments.
  • Input issue ticket data into Timberline on a daily basis.
  • Maintain tool room stock, equipment, and work area in a safe, neat, and orderly manner.
  • Assist in monitoring the security of the tool room.
  • Perform cleaning and light repairs of equipment, including personal protection devices, as directed
  • by the Supervisor.
  • Prepare Branch Transfers/documentation for pick-up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehousing and inventory control.
  • Prior experience in a manual labor trade
  • Must be computer literate with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to interface with all levels of management.
  • Must have good judgment skills, attention to detail high-level level work initiative.
  • Must be able to understand and abide by all company & safety regulations and policies.
  • Must be able to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to drive company vehicles/equipment in a safe manner.
  • Understand the company quality manual and procedures described therein.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and regularly works in outside weather conditions.

The individual must properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit areas where it is required. This includes a hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFDs), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and the location the work is being conducted.

In addition, the Employee must also be capable of the following:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Accessing and exiting machines safely.
  • Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back in the performance of work.
  • Climbing vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects and the ability to lift and carry in excess of 120 lbs. with assistance.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
