The Product Development Engineer will performengineering and other related tasks as assigned in developing andmanufacturing of new and revised proprietary products under the guidance ofmore senior level engineers. The incumbent will participate with product developmentpersonnel, outside consultants, design firms, vendors, and others in theprocess of designing and developing new products. This individual will haveresponsibility for managing portions of projects appropriate to the experiencelevel and expertise of the incumbent. Related work will be performed as directed,according to established procedures and methods and will be reviewed foroverall results by senior level personnel. The incumbent will live the corporate values of treating people with dignity and respect, practicing leadership, driving continuous improvement, acting with a sense of urgency, promoting innovation, fighting for consensus, and managing through teams.
Specific Responsibilities:
*Work under the guidance of senior personnel in researching and evaluating feasibility of new products, materials, processes, design systems, and user needs and desires as inputs for new products.
*Under direction, design new and revised proprietary products using Parametric Solid Modeling CAD design software, perform engineering analysis using Finite Element Analysis CAE software, perform manufacturability analysis, using manufacturing simulation software such as mold filing, mold cooling and warpage analysis software.
*Test and evaluate materials and components using approved methods and procedures.
*Maintain accurate and up to date records of test results.
*Prepare test reports for review by more senior personnel.
*Maintain accurate and up to date project files for work assigned.
*Learn and then have input to and confirm accuracy of the engineering database, to include bill of materials, packaging instructions, weight and dimensions and manufacturing cost information as directed.
*Assist manufacturing, quality assurance and tool engineering in improving product performance, cost reduction and resolving manufacturing problems with part, material or process revisions or redesign as directed by more senior personnel.
*Work with CAD operators in implementation of design, analysis, and revisions.
*Work with lab technicians in conducting and evaluating tests as required.
*Work with model-maker, or outside model shop, in preparation of models and prototypes.
*Establish and maintain product design history file in accordance with product development procedures as directed by more senior staff.
Skills & Qualifications:
*Bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering or very closely related required.
*1-3 years product development engineering experience
*Basic product, manufacturing process, material, and product development process knowledge and experience.
