Job description

Position Summary:

The Instructor for The Academy at Tommy Nobis Center is an integral part of our TNC programming and provides accelerated vocational education, training, and employment to young adults with disabilities who are transitioning out of High School and into the work environment. The Instructor is responsible for delivering curriculum specific to Social Skills for employment success, Vocational Skills, and the integration of Community-based work. This role is also responsible for coordinating services with participants and their family members, community employers, and other key team members. The Instructor at The Academy is a full-time position focused on year-round services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Engageswith individual participants, their family, and program staff to develop an individualized service planidentifyingparticipantgoal, and a coordinating plan to achieve them.
  1. Works in collaboration with Program Manager and Employment Specialists to ready participants to actualize their employment goals
  1. Developsspecializedcurriculumlesson planaccommodationsfor each cohort based uponstudentneedsin alignment with the identified educational standards:
  1. Social Skills for employment success
  1. Vocational Skills
  1. Community-based Work Integration
  1. Responsible forcompilation of curriculum for lesson planning anddelivery ofeducational content for participants.
  1. Teaches vocational skills curriculum (life skills, social skills,career exploration, job readiness, interview skills, etc.) toyoung adults with disabilities.
  1. Creates and engaging, inclusive, and fun learning environment while effectively deliveringappropriate classroommanagement
  1. Maintains confidential,timely, andaccuratecase records, attendance, and billing recordsin accordance withGVRA, CARF, Tommy Nobis Center, and all other regulatory agency requirements.
  1. Provides ongoing communicationregardingparticipant’s progress, needs, etc. to the participant and others such as family, counselors, and other Tommy Nobis Center staff, asappropriate.
  1. Coordinates and conducts meetings to discuss participant progress and/or concerns.
  1. Serves as an advocate and ally forpersonswith disabilities by educatingthe communityregardingThe Academy.
  1. Provides regular feedback to Employment Specialists oneachindividual’sprogress, capabilities, and constraints as it relates to securing employment.
  1. Provides oversight and direction to the Academy Para-pro by providing clear expectations,coaching, and holding accountable for deliverables and job execution.

Qualifications

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in special education, rehabilitation, sociology, behavioralsciencesor relatedfield.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a teaching role.
  • Experience teaching or working with individuals with disabilities.
  • CRC (preferred)

Other Qualifications or Requirements:

  • Must be highlyorganized,accuratein completing work assignments.
  • Strong oral& writtencommunication skills.

  • General knowledge of other office equipment such as copiers, scanners, faxmachine, etc.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Prior Experience Desirable:

  • Experience working with transition students
  • Delivery of job readiness skills training
  • Developing programmatic marketing materials

Equipment

Knowledge of computers and systems (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Case Management Software, and Teams)
