The Morning Star Company and its affiliates operate three tomato processing facilities in Central California, processing about 40% of the California processing tomato crop, in addition to tomato growing, transplanting, farming, harvesting and trucking operations. The company employs approximately 500 year-round and over 3,000 seasonal colleagues, with annual sales of about $1 billion.
The Morning Star Company is the largest producer of bulk tomato ingredient products (tomato paste and diced tomatoes) in the world. We also produce canned tomatoes, tomato products and specialty sauces in pouches for customers in the retail and food service markets. The company is known worldwide for its innovation and integrity.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Seasonal Health and Safety Support Colleague is to foster a world-class safety culture at The Morning Star Packing Company - Williams, CA by working in direct collaboration with the Health & Safety Coordinator and the overarching safety program. This role is dedicated to protecting all colleagues through the meticulous execution of daily plant walkthroughs, frequent tailgate safety meetings, and weekly coordination with business units to identify and resolve hazards. By maintaining a rigorous standard of recordkeeping and ensuring the operational readiness of all safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and emergency stations. This position ensures that our processing environment remains a secure, compliant, and proactive workplace.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Seasonal Health and Safety Support Colleague to join our team at a high-volume tomato processing facility. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure a safe and compliant work environment by conducting regular inspections, identifying hazards, and supporting the facility's safety culture. This position is crucial in maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring that all colleagues adhere to safety procedures and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Inspections & Compliance
  • Conduct daily plant safety walkthroughs to identify and document unsafe conditions, behaviors, or hazards.
  • Perform monthly inspections of fire extinguishers to ensure they are accessible and functional.
  • Verify that eye wash and safety shower stations are functional through monthly inspections.
  • Monitor work areas and equipment to ensure all colleagues are following safety procedures and wearing required PPE, such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Collaborate with the Mechanic/Business Unit Coordinator to ensure timely follow-up and implementation of corrective actions.

Safety Communication & Training
  • Lead frequent tailgate safety meetings to maintain ongoing safety awareness.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with business units to discuss safety performance and address specific concerns.
  • Conduct in-season safety orientations for colleagues as required.
  • Assist in updating and enforcing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Incident Response & Reporting
  • Provide first-level coordination and assistance for colleagues with minor injuries.
  • Prepare detailed safety incident and investigation reports, including root cause analysis for near misses or unsafe conditions.
  • Assist colleagues in opening workers' comp claims.
  • Coordinate medical attention with the clinic or hospital.
  • Follow up with injured colleagues and be familiar with our return-to-work program.

Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Maintain strong, accurate records of all safety inspections, findings, and follow-ups in facility logbooks.
  • Ensure proper safety-training records and equipment audit logs are organized and maintained.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment is preferred.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively with plant teams.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for maintaining documentation and safety reporting.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to navigate a fast-paced industrial environment and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Mobility: Must be able to climb ladders and stairs frequently to conduct thorough facility audits.
  • Preferences: Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred. A current CPR/First Aid certification is also a plus but is not required since we can certify you.
  • Note: Advanced OSHA training or certifications are not required for this support role.

Work Environment
  • Work is primarily conducted on the plant floor in a dynamic processing environment.
  • Conditions can be warm, humid, and loud, especially during the processing season.
  • This position is seasonal (Mid-June - October) and may require weekend during peak operations.

Compensation:
Starting wage for this role is $25.00 to $28.00 per hour.
