BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
Performs advanced (seniorlevel) work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits. Work involves coordinating the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery, and equipment. May serve as a lead worker providing direction to others. Reports to Electromechanical Supervisor and works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
WORK HOURS: Tuesday Friday, 10 hours a day, 40 hours a week
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensures all electrical systems meet safety codes and support the integrity of secure environments, including data centers, communication hubs, and operational facilities.
• Implements protective measures such as surge protection, grounding, and secure conduit routing to prevent unauthorized access or system compromise.
• Collaborates with IT, cybersecurity, and facilities teams to align electrical infrastructure with agencywide security frameworks (e.g., NIST, NFPA 70E).
• Documents electrical configurations, service logs, and compliance activities in accordance with TMD policy.
• Coordinates the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
• Coordinates the inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits.
• Develops plans and specifications of maintenance and renovation projects.
• Estimates time and material used on projects.
• Reviews the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes.
• Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with codes.
• Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and service to equipment.
• Plans and coordinates the installation of electrical systems.
• Plans longrange electrical maintenance programs.
• Assists Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) section with mechanical and electrical projects.
• Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Air Force safety standards.
• Adheres to standby schedule and responds to emergency after hours calls.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook.
• May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

• Vocational or special training in an electrical trade is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• Two (2) years' experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment is required.
• Experience using Microsoft applications to include Outlook, Excel and Word is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with variable frequency drives (VFD) troubleshooting/operations is preferred.
• Experience with solar power operations is preferred.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:

• Valid driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business.
• Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)/State Electrical License is preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Background Investigation . Selected candidate must be able to obtain a CAC and/or pass a federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations.
• Selected candidate must pass an initial criminal history check and review of foreign adversary connections that might prevent them from being able to mantain the security or integrity of TMD infrastructure with periodic reviews throughout employment.
• In accordance with Executive Order GA48, Texas Military Department (TMD) employees are prohibited from current employment or ongoing business relationships with any entity identified on the U.S. Department of Commerce Entity List (15 C.F.R. 791.4) or any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed therein.
• Eligibility to Work in the U.S. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in EVerify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I9 to confirm work authorization. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate having and maintaining legal authorization to work in the United States. Failure to present such authorization within the time specified by the U.S. Department of Labor will result in the offer being rescinded.

Knowledge of:

• general principles and theory of electricity, and of safety regulations;
• electrical, power production, and HVAC/R systems to include VAVs;
• knowledge of power production and high voltage systems;
• building/electrical diagram usage;
• electrical preventative maintenance;
• basic electrical controls and troubleshooting;
• grounding/lightening protection;
• transformer, switch and motor parts and operations; and
• (OSHA) and state electrical safety practices.

Skill in:

• using tools, to include electrical meters, fuse pullers and electrical troubleshooting;
• communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
• verbally expressing information in a clear and concise manner;
• lock out tag out procedures;
• assessing building interior/exterior lighting, as well as safety lighting; and
• prioritizing and executing electrical work orders and training.

Ability to:

• maintain the security and integrity of the Texas Military Department Infrastructure;
• make maintenance or electrical repairs;
• manage section work order;
• work with all other trades and sections;
• communicate effectively;
• diagnose malfunctioning units;
• serve as a lead worker providing direction to others;
• asses building and electrical diagrams;
• attend and stay current with Air Force Lightning Protection and Grounding training requirements, including but not limited to annual refresher training;
• adhere to OSHA and Air Force safety practices;
• direct contractors on repair needs and on power outages; and
• work in a military environment.

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Office work is generally performed in a sedentary office setting, involving sitting, standing and walking to perform job duties. Office work requires extensive use of a personal computer and telephone. Candidate must also be able to lift, carry, move and/or set up equipment and materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Special assignments may occasionally be performed outdoors with exposure to inclement or hot weather. Requires the ability to travel up to approximately 10% of the time.
