A tissue recovery technician collects human tissue after patient deaths for purposes of tissue donation, transplant, or research. As a tissue recovery technician, you perform a variety of duties to ensure that tissue samples are safe and viable. For example, you collect information about the donor, including lab test results, to rule out infectious diseases. You confirm the patient’s identity and document each step of the tissue recovery process to ensure complete and accurate records. After retrieving tissue, bone, or corneas from a patient, you must suture the body so it’s ready for processing in autopsy or a funeral home.
