Time-building pilots typically work for lower pay or cover their own flight expenses in exchange for valuable flight experience.

What does a time building pilot do?

As a Time Building Pilot, your primary responsibility is to accumulate flight hours by conducting solo or dual flights in accordance with FAA regulations and employer guidelines. You may be tasked with flying cross-country, practicing different maneuvers, or partnering with other pilots to share costs and experience. The role demands meticulous logbook documentation, adherence to safety protocols, and sometimes assisting with basic aircraft upkeep between flights. Collaboration with flight schools, instructors, or other time-building pilots is common, and flexibility in scheduling is often required to make the most of available flying opportunities.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a time building pilot?

To thrive as a Time Building Pilot, you need solid foundational piloting skills, a valid private or commercial pilot license, and a good safety record.
