Job Description

As a Senior Product Designer at Tidepool, you will work fluidly and collaboratively with product managers, engineers, sales, healthcare professionals and patients to make meaningful contributions to Tidepool and the diabetes community. This role calls for a designer who is passionate about understanding and advocating for patient and clinician needs, thrives in ambiguity and technical complexity and is excited about defining the vision and user experience for Tidepool's Data Management Platform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Design

  • Lead design projects across Tidepool's Data Management Platform as well as new products in development.

  • Translate broad need statements from patients and healthcare professionals into meaningful designs, balancing usability with safety regulations and technical considerations.

  • Communicate your data-informed vision and design rationale, that has users at the heart of it, to stakeholders and team members in a compelling way.

  • Partner closely with product, engineering and quality assurance engineers to drive design decisions and advocate for our users.

  • Solve a variety of product design challenges across iOS, Android, web and mobile web.

  • Build and manage a comprehensive design system and component library to maintain consistency.

  • Plan, design and lead a wide range of user research, including exploratory interviews and task-based usability testing.

  • Break down experiences thoughtfully for teams to ship value incrementally (from Minimum Valuable Experience to Desired Experience), making intentional trade-offs that are grounded in a clear perspective.

  • Develop deep understanding and empathy for people living with diabetes and healthcare providers and leverage that feedback to push for product refinement/improvement.

Leadership & Mentorship

We expect experienced product designers at Tidepool to support the product manager as a leader on the team, interfacing with external partners, guiding newer team members and creating alignment across teams to move a project forward.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced design team members, interns and contractors.

  • Support the recruitment and hiring of multi-disciplinary design / product team members.

  • Help shape the culture of our growing design team.

  • Lead co-creation workshops as part of the analysis and design of new processes for internal and external teams.

Product Thinking
We expect experienced product designers at Tidepool to work closely with product managers to craft experiences that have the intended impact on their users through novel feature discovery, feature enhancement or collaborative feature definition.

  • Work closely with the product manager to define new feature concepts and influence the product strategy by establishing product and feature priorities.

  • Proactively manage prioritization challenges with your product team to ensure design focus areas are aligned with business goals.

  • Comfortable taking on roles outside of traditional design, including product management.

  • Develop expertise in various diabetes hardware and software technologies in order to create impactful design solutions.

Qualifications

We would love to consider you for this role if you have:

  • 6+ years of experience as a senior product designer or interaction designer or equivalent experience in visual design, experience design, etc.

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your practice of a design process solving problems for mobile and responsive web platforms.

  • Experience in healthcare, wellness or medical device industries

  • Experience executing designs in regulated, technical, or workflow-heavy domains with complex data and hardware constraints

  • Track record of project leadership, creative thinking, and cross functional collaboration in support of influencing product features including 01

  • Experience working in Tidepool's task management system, Jira, to conduct design reviews and leave design feedback for engineers.

We love:

  • Experience designing data-rich experiences, including data visualization and dashboards that help people understand and act on complex information.

  • Experience designing for generative AI, LLMs, or machine learning interfaces

  • Designers that work independently to explore concepts from beginning to end, yet also seek out feedback loops with your ideas.

  • Experimentation with AI powered tools like Figma AI and Midjourney

  • A secret design sauce that you bring to every design team you're on
