Job Description

Job Summary: The Operator 1 position is integral to the production process at our WPC Extrusion Plant. This role involves performing, learning, and observing a variety of tasks to ensure quality control, efficient operations, and a clean, safe working environment. Responsibilities are categorized into "See," "Learn," "Do," and "Teach" as per our training and task prioritization framework.
 

Key Responsibilities:
Core Duties (DO)
โ€ข    Conduct color and defect inspections on boards.
โ€ข    Perform board measurements and align boards on carts.
โ€ข    Pull and band scrap boards, and prepare scrap bundles.
โ€ข    Prep carts for finished goods bundles, attach end tags, and package completed finished goods.
โ€ข    Label products accurately and ensure proper storage of tools after cleaning.
โ€ข    Operate banders, staple guns, and pull carts.
โ€ข    Refill banding roll carts and cut black slip sheeting.
โ€ข    Move completed, tagged units to designated locations (MCP).
โ€ข    Clear production line jam-ups and assist others in packaging and wrapping units.
โ€ข    Communicate defects and issues with operators, leads, and supervisors.
โ€ข    Inspect groove and side printing for accuracy.
โ€ข    Assist with First Piece Inspection (FPI) and line clearance.
โ€ข    Monitor raw material supplies and restock as necessary.
โ€ข    Isolate and identify defective products per established procedures.
โ€ข    Dust walls and equipment, and clean as per the instruction schedule.
โ€ข    Perform heavy cleaning tasks, such as truck dumps, and empty trash.
โ€ข    Weigh and manage wood bins before disposal.
โ€ข    Update Tier 1 boards and maintain accurate records (e.g., FPI, BOM, changeover forms).
Learning and Growth Tasks (LEARN)
โ€ข    Learn to string up extrusion lines.
โ€ข    Understand the operation of serialized labeling systems.
โ€ข    Assist with cooling water removal processes.
โ€ข    Monitor SPC screens to ensure production quality standards.
Observational Tasks (SEE)
โ€ข    Observe printing and adherence of completed product tags.
โ€ข    Ensure tagging and packaging meet required standards.
โ€ข    Witness updates and maintenance of production paperwork.
Qualifications and Skills:
โ€ข    Previous experience in a manufacturing or production setting is preferred but not required.
โ€ข    Basic mechanical aptitude and an eye for detail.
โ€ข    Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with team members.
โ€ข    Must be comfortable with physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
โ€ข    Strength & Endurance:
o    Lift and move boards, bundles, and raw materials weighing up to [insert specific weight, e.g., 50 lbs].
o    Perform repetitive tasks such as pulling scrap boards and operating tools like staple guns and banders.
o    Stand for extended periods during production tasks.
โ€ข    Mobility:
o    Bend, squat, and stretch to align boards, inspect defects, and clean equipment.
o    Walk frequently around the work area to assist with packaging, move tagged units, and monitor the production line.
o    Operate lift trucks and pull carts as needed.
โ€ข    Dexterity & Coordination:
o    Use hands and fingers to package goods, refill banding roll carts, and attach serialized labels accurately.
o    Handle tools (staple guns, banders) with precision.
o    Align and stack boards on carts and bundles consistently and efficiently.
โ€ข    Visual Acuity:
o    Inspect groove, side printing, and finished products for quality and defects.
o    Monitor SPC screens and ensure accurate labeling.
o    Perform color and defect inspections requiring close attention to detail.
โ€ข    Environmental Tolerance:
o    Work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, vibrations, and varying temperatures.
o    Manage heavy cleaning tasks such as dusting walls, performing truck dumps, and clearing jam-ups.
o    Adapt to handling products in potentially dusty or wet conditions during cooling water removal or cleaning tasks.
