Job description

The Performance Science Manager leads the integration and delivery of sports science systems across APC LA. This role is responsible for athlete assessment, monitoring, diagnostic profiling, data management across biomechanics, physiology, and applied sports science, as well as innovation processes that translate directly into training, rehabilitation, and performance decision-making.
This role requires a unique combination of scientific depth, technical expertise, applied performance credibility. The Performance Science Manager must operate across lab, gym, rehab, and field environments ensuring that athlete data is reported and communicated in a way that improves training, rehabilitation, and performance decisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT, DIAGNOSTICS & ATHLETE PROFILING
    Build comprehensive athlete profiling frameworks that connect physical capacities, movement characteristics, training history, injury/rehab context, sport demands, and performance outcomes.
    Execute athlete testing and monitoring across biomechanics, physiology, strength/power, movement, load, and readiness domains in the lab, gym, rehab, and field environments.
    Analyze and visualize athlete performance data, ensuring data quality and translating technical outputs into clear reports and dashboards for interdisciplinary decision-making.
    Maintain high standards of scientific rigor, evidence, and validation in all assessment and profiling processes.
  • PERFORMANCE SCIENCE INTEGRATION
    Embed performance testing, monitoring, and feedback directly into strength & conditioning, rehabilitation, and field-based training environments.
    Translate diagnostic and monitoring data into practical recommendations for exercise selection, loading strategies, rehab progression, return-to-performance planning, and performance interventions.
    Collaborate closely with S&C coaches, physical therapists, sport coaches, and interdisciplinary performance staff to ensure testing outputs influence real training decisions.
    Provide hands-on support during gym-floor, rehab, or field sessions when required, including coaching assistance, session monitoring, and implementation of athlete-specific interventions.
  • INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION
    Lead APC LA's structured innovation process across performance science and applied technology by defining priority performance questions, exploring industry solutions and emerging technologies, and running internal pilot tests to validate potential impact and scalability.
    Build external relationships with universities, technology providers, researchers, performance experts, and sport-specific specialists to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
    Translate validated innovations into APC systems, field delivery models, and Red Bull global performance projects.
    Collaborate with the global APC corporate projects entities to share methods, insights, and innovation opportunities.

EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise
that matter most for this role:
  • Required:
  • Undergraduate and Master's degree in biomechanics, physiology, sports science or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in professional / elite team sport environments.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering performance testing and diagnostics across a range of key technologies (AMTI, Vicon, Theia, Human Norm, Parvo, Treadmetrix, VALD).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop data management systems to analyze and report performance data and translate it into training, rehabilitation, or performance recommendations using existing tools (MATLAB, Python, R, Tableau).
  • Strong understanding of strength & conditioning principles, training theory, periodization, exercise prescription, and athlete development.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information to athletes, coaches, and interdisciplinary performance team members in a clear and practical manner.
  • Preferred:
  • PhD in sports science or related field
  • Recognized sports science and strength and conditioning accreditation (CSCS, CPSS, BASES, ESSA)
  • Experience supporting reconditioning and return-to-performance, processes.
  • Experience working across multiple sports and with athletes who have diverse training backgrounds.
  • Travel 30-40%
