Board of Directors Position Description

Help Make a Difference for Military and Veteran Families

One conversation can change a family’s journey.

The Friends of New Mexico Fisher House helps ensure military members, veterans, and their families have a comfortable place to stay while a loved one receives medical care.

As a Board member, you’ll help guide our organization, strengthen community support, and make a real difference for the families we serve.

Our Mission

We support the Albuquerque Fisher House by raising community awareness, building partnerships, fundraising, and providing leadership so military and veteran families can stay close to their loved ones during treatment.

What Board Members Do

Board members help guide the organization by:

  • Attending and participating in Board meetings.
  • Helping set goals and priorities.
  • Providing responsible oversight of our resources.
  • Supporting fundraising and community outreach.
  • Serving as an ambassador for the Friends and the Albuquerque Fisher House.
  • Building relationships that increase awareness of our mission.
  • Sharing your experience, ideas, and expertise.
  • Working respectfully and collaboratively with fellow Board members.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Previous nonprofit Board experience is helpful, but not required.

Successful Board members:

  • Care about serving military and veteran families.
  • Demonstrate integrity and good judgment.
  • Work well with others.
  • Communicate respectfully.
  • Are willing to learn and contribute.
  • Bring experience in areas such as business, military service, finance, communications, marketing, education, or community leadership.

Time Commitment

Board members are asked to:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (typically the first Wednesday of each month).
  • Review meeting materials in advance.
  • Participate in occasional special projects.
  • Support fundraising and outreach activities when available.
