How does a Texture Look Development Artist typically collaborate with other departments during a production?

They often participate in review sessions where feedback is shared and adjustments are made to achieve the desired look. Clear communication and the ability to interpret artistic direction are essential, as you'll need to address technical challenges while maintaining creative vision. Collaboration often happens through digital asset management systems and regular meetings, where updates and issues are discussed as the project progresses.

What is a Texture Look Development Artist?

A Texture Look Development Artist is a professional in the visual effects, animation, or gaming industry who specializes in creating and refining the surface qualities of 3D models. They are responsible for painting textures and developing the appearance of materials such as skin, fabric, metal, and other surfaces to ensure they look realistic or stylized according to the project's requirements. This role combines artistic skills with technical knowledge to achieve visually compelling results that meet the creative vision of the project. Texture Look Development Artists work closely with modelers, lighting artists, and other team members to ensure the final assets integrate seamlessly into the production pipeline.

Job description

About the Company:
Founded in 2017 by Anthony and Joe Russo, AGBO is an artist-led independent studio shaping the future of film and television. The Russo Brothers and AGBO have generated more than $7 billion at the global box office, including Avengers: Endgame. The studio's projects include Academy Award-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once, Netflix hits The Gray Man and Extraction, and Prime Video's visceral thriller The Bluff and the global Citadel franchise. Citadel Season 2 premieres in May 2026.

AGBO is currently in production with Netflix on Tygo and Mercenary, both part of the Extraction universe, as well as with Lionsgate on John Rambo, a prequel to the iconic franchise. The studio is in post-production on The Whisper Man, starring Robert De Niro, and Avengers: Doomsday, which will be released December 18, 2026. AGBO will begin shooting Avengers: Secret Wars later this year. Both upcoming Avengers films are directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and co-produced by AGBO and Marvel Studios.

In 2023, AGBO welcomed Donald Mustard-former Chief Creative Officer at Epic Games and co-creator of Fortnite-as a partner. Mustard brings a bold creative vision to AGBO: to expand what storytelling can be through immersive, interconnected worlds that span across media. We're building the future of storytelling-and we're looking for bold, creative minds to help shape it. If you're ready to help define what comes next, we'd love to meet you.
Position Summary:
AGBO is seeking an Asset Artist to join our Interactive team and help build high-quality, real-time content for our game projects. This role focuses on creating visually compelling, performance-optimized assets in Unreal Engine that support immersive, narrative-driven gameplay experiences.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded 3D artist with strong skills in modeling, surfacing, layout, and optimization, and a deep understanding of real-time production pipelines. You should be comfortable taking assets from concept through final in-engine implementation, collaborating across disciplines, and maintaining high visual standards while meeting performance targets.

This is a temporary, project-based role and an Expression of Interest for upcoming needs. Candidates will be contacted as opportunities align with production schedules. We're looking for artists of all levels who can operate independently, bring thoughtful creative solutions, and consistently deliver production-ready assets at a high level of polish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create high-quality real-time assets including characters, environments, vehicles, weapons, and props from concept through final implementation.
  • Model, sculpt, texture, and optimize assets for use in Unreal Engine, ensuring they meet gameplay and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Technical Art, Lighting, and Engineering to ensure assets integrate seamlessly into gameplay systems.
  • Build and maintain clean topology, efficient UV layouts, and optimized materials suitable for real-time rendering.
  • Develop project-based materials and shaders in Unreal Engine, including parent materials and reusable functions.
  • Ingest internally created or third-party assets into the project, ensuring consistency and technical compliance.
  • Support set dressing, world building, and environment layout within Unreal.
  • Utilize Unreal tools such as Landscapes, PCG, Splines, and Blueprint-based asset setups where appropriate.
  • Identify and solve technical challenges within DCC tools and Unreal Engine while maintaining artistic intent.
  • Participate in look development and R&D to elevate visual fidelity while balancing performance budgets.
  • Maintain documentation and standardized workflows to support scalable asset production.
  • Address feedback and revisions efficiently while preserving quality and performance targets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 1+ years of experience creating assets for real-time games or interactive projects.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in modeling and texturing across characters, environments, vehicles, and props.
  • Proficient in Unreal Engine workflows for asset implementation, material creation, and optimization.
  • Advanced knowledge of DCC tools such as Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Houdini, or similar.
  • Experience optimizing assets for performance while maintaining visual fidelity (LODs, draw calls, texture budgets, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of form, anatomy, proportion, scale, silhouette, lighting, and composition.
  • Experience working across multiple art styles, with or without direct concept reference.
  • Ability to gather references and contribute to look development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to receive and implement art direction effectively.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with photogrammetry and asset scanning workflows.
  • Experience building Control Rigs or basic rigging for in-engine use.
  • Familiarity with procedural workflows and PCG tools.
  • Experience with advanced material creation, shader functions, and performance profiling.
  • Background in narrative-driven or third-person action games.

Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
  • This is an Expression of Interest role. You will be contacted once a suitable opportunity becomes available.
  • All levels
  • Remote candidates may be considered; preference will be given to candidates based in or near Los Angeles.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.
  • Please submit a portfolio or demo reel demonstrating relevant real-time asset work
