ADMISSIONS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST - ADMISSIONS
POSITION
Full-time, 12 month position
A key member of the admissions team, the Admissions Communication Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing strategic communications that support undergraduate recruitment, yield, and enrollment initiatives. This position manages prospective student communication plans across multiple platforms, including CRM systems, email, texting, print, and digital outreach, while ensuring messaging aligns with institutional enrollment goals and brand standards.
The individual selected will represent the University of Minnesota Crookston by providing high-quality service to prospective students and their families while collaborating with campus partners to support student success and advance efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment.
The Admissions Communication Specialist collaborates closely with admissions counselors, marketing and communications, financial aid, academic departments, and enrollment leadership to enhance student engagement throughout the recruitment funnel and improve inquiry-to-enrollment conversion outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment Communication Strategy
  • Working with the Director of Admissions, develop and execute communication plans for prospective students at all stages of the admissions funnel, including inquiry, applicant, admitted, and confirmed student populations.
  • Coordinate strategic messaging campaigns focused on recruitment, yield, event promotion, FAFSA completion, scholarship deadlines, and enrollment milestones.
  • Assist in developing segmented communication strategies for specific student populations, including first-year, transfer, online, adult, and out-of-state students.
  • Monitor communication performance metrics and recommend improvements based on engagement and conversion data.

CRM & Communication Operations
  • Manage and maintain communication workflows within the institution's CRM system (e.g., Slate).
  • Build, test, and deploy email campaigns, text message campaigns, event communications, and automated workflows.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality control of communications, including merge fields, audience segmentation, and timing of delivery.
  • Support CRM data integrity and collaborate with admissions operations staff on recruitment processes and reporting.

Content Development
  • Draft and edit recruitment-focused content for email, print, text messaging, social media collaboration with Marketing and Communications, and digital advertising.
  • Ensure communications maintain consistent institutional voice, tone, and branding standards.
  • Develop communication content that emphasizes affordability, academic programs, student experience, and enrollment value proposition.

Event & Yield Support
  • Support communication efforts related to campus visit programs, admitted student events, orientation initiatives, and recruitment campaigns.
  • Assist with event invitation development, registration communications, reminders, and follow-up messaging.
  • Coordinate communication timelines tied to enrollment deadlines and strategic enrollment initiatives.

Collaboration & Strategic Planning
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to align recruitment messaging and digital campaigns.
  • Partner with Financial Aid and academic departments to communicate program-specific opportunities and student support resources.
  • Participate in enrollment strategy discussions and contribute ideas to improve prospective student engagement and enrollment outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

  • Ability to interpret enrollment data and adjust communication strategies accordingly.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Director of Admissions
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree plus at least four years of relevant experience or Master's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in admissions and recruitment focused communications, marketing, recruitment, admissions processes, or customer relationship management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze communication effectiveness and engagement data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Strategic Communications, Marketing, Higher Education, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field required at the time of hire or within 1 year of employment.
  • Experience working in higher education admissions or enrollment management.
  • In depth experience using CRM platforms such as Slate.
  • Familiarity with email marketing, text messaging platforms, and digital communication strategies.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment and enrollment funnel strategies.
  • Experience with audience segmentation and communication analytics.

Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $52,500 - $59,900 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
