Job Description

Youll perform construction materials field testing under the direction of CMT leadership, traveling to job sites to conduct quality control tests, document observations, transport and set up equipment, communicate results to project teams, and follow company safety, QC plans, SOPs, and construction plans and specifications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs construction-related field tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Supervisory Staff.

  • Daily commutable travels to various construction sites primarily throughout the Indianapolis metro area, with the occasional overnight and/or weekend work when required.

  • Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.

  • Transports equipment, test specimens and/or documents to field personnel, laboratory, clients or other offices, and provides physical assistance in equipment set-up.

  • Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.

  • Performs field quality control tests of concrete and masonry construction.

  • Performs field density testing on soil, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.

  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks and supports other departments as necessary.

  • Follows Atlas safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specs

  • Ability to follow Atlas' QC plan and SOPs.

Minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Physical strength, stamina and dexterity to lift and move 50 lbs., stoop, bend, and stand throughout the course of a workday in varying weather conditions in varying terrain.
  • Motivated, career-oriented individual striving to learn and achieve within the construction industry.
  • Must be willing to travel near the reporting office and surrounding areas as required by assignments.
  • Works well independently.
  • Experience with/within a construction related field is a plus.
  • Should be safety conscious, a team player, energetic, self-motivated, eager to learn, possess good written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail

Technical requirements:

  • Ability to work toward and achieve industry required certifications. e.g., APNGA Nuclear Certification, OSHA 10-hour Construction, etc.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn and operate specialty equipment.

Other miscellaneous qualities:

  • Materials Laboratory, Geotechnical Drilling, or Soils related experience would be a plus.
  • Preference to one or more of the following certifications: ICC, NICET, NETTCP, CWI, etc., but not required
  • Preferred not required: American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1
