Job description

Reports to: General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor and Laboratory Director

Minimum Qualifications: .

  1. Licensed MD/DO/DPM.

  2. Doctoral, Master's, Bachelor's or Associate's degree in laboratory science.

  3. Have education equivalent to an Associate's degree AND graduated from a clinical laboratory training program OR have 3 months experience in each specialty of high complexity testing performed.

  4. Prior to 04/24/1995, High School graduate or equivalent AND graduated from an HHS-approved lab training program OR completed military Medical Lab Specialist (50 week) course.

  5. Prior to 04/24/1995, High School graduate or equivalent AND documentation of training for high complexity testing AND if training before 01/19/93, on-site supervision is required when high complexity testing is performed.

  6. Associate degree in Medical laboratory science (MLT).

  7. Must also provide documentation of training at the present facility for testing personnel.

This position requires direct and unlimited access to Protected Health Information (PHI). The employee accesses only that PHI required to perform his/her essential job functions. The information accessed directly relates to the patient's entire medical history and includes sensitive information such as the patient's mental health status. Exposure Determination:

Risk for blood borne pathogen exposure: According to this position description, there is some potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine laboratory duties utilizing established protocols and procedures, to include specimen processing and performing laboratory testing.

  2. Analyzed clinical laboratory specimens following standard methods and procedures.

  3. Provides on-site direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by any individual qualified under $493.1489(b)(5).

  4. Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examination to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

  5. Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever applicable test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  6. Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.

  7. Performs equipment maintenance in accordance with Instrument and equipment procedure manuals and laboratory policies.

  8. Participates in the development of new laboratory standard procedures.

  9. Performs validation procedures for new methods and or equipment.

  10. Performs quality control procedures on all analytes following test system requirements and laboratory policies and procedures.

  11. Performs routine preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on all laboratory equipment as required.

  12. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits and corrective actions.

  13. Performs other task, not listed above, as specified by the Manager or Laboratory Director

  14. Performs Proficiency Testing in all areas of the lab to comply with CLIA and accrediting regulations.

  15. Understands principles and competently performs a variety of laboratory procedures and techniques.

  16. Assist to validate testing procedures to ensure accuracy, precision and compliance with good laboratory practice.
