Job description

Sheriff's Support Specialist

Amended: 7/30/24

Shift pay: 5% additional pay for evening shift work; 7 ยฝ % additional pay for night shift work. Applicants must be willing to work any shift of a 24-hour period and any 5 of 7 days.

Examinations: Appraisal (Weight 100%): of training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the work based on any combination of the following: Investigation, written exam and rating of application. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent, AND three years of progressively responsible clerical, general computer and office experience directly related to the area of assignment, including one year of experience as a Sheriff's Support Technician or its equivalent OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Certification of Typing/Keyboarding speed of 50 net words per minute ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a Valid California Driver's License
  • Transcription speed of 50 net words per minute

Applicants Must Attach: a copy of their typing certificate, verifying a typing speed of fifty (50) net words per minute, to their application. Certificates must have been issued within the last two years and must conform to the testing standards adopted by the Civil Service Commission. Additional Information

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date. A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
