Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The NBME Test Development unit is currently seeking an Editor I to join our test materials development team. The Editor I will work with volunteer subject matter experts and other stakeholders to create and assemble test content used to evaluate health professionals at varying stages of their education and practice.
This role has been designated as hybrid, which means it generally includes duties that must be performed in the office on specified dates, which may occur 2-3 days per month on average. We are open to considering candidates within 50 miles of our Philadelphia, PA (19104) office location.
Please note that onsite interviews and onboarding at our Philadelphia office may be required for this role. If applicable, advance notice will be provided to support planning.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Edit test questions, focusing on grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency of style, and content accuracy. Review items for test flaws and provide guidance to subject matter experts in accordance with test development best practices.
  • Cofacilitate multi-day test development committee (subject matter expert) meetings, actively contributing knowledge of content and test development methodology. Capture committee edits in real time and maintain accurate records of committee decisions.
  • Assist in the development of committee assignments; support subject matter experts in the use of item authoring and file sharing software.
  • Assemble test forms and facilitate forms review by subject matter experts.
  • Maintain test question banks; apply required metadata within content management systems and facilitate routine expert review for content currency, accuracy, and alignment with learner outcomes.
  • Produce and publish examinations and ancillary materials for web-based test delivery, including creation of practice or orientation materials; perform quality control of all examination materials.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of examination schedules, project plans, style guides, and additional documentation related to test development procedures.
  • Provide instruction and feedback to editorial production and test development support staff.

  • Facilitate productive content reviews by subject matter experts and accurately record editorial changes and expert decisions.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of content and metadata entered into databases.

  • Follow established best practices and standard procedures.
  • Ensure test question pools continually support test development needs.
  • Communicate effectively with team, external stakeholders, and subject matter experts.
  • Provide guidance and feedback for junior staff.
  • Engage in ongoing training and continuous improvement efforts.

REQUIREMENTS

Compensation we are offering for this position is at $56,000-$60,000/year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
