Job description

Test Driver

Position Overview:

We are seeking reliable, safety-focused Test Drivers to support data recording activities for a local project in Tempe, AZ. Drivers will operate vehicles equipped with specialized logging systems to collect high-quality data for the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This role involves following predefined routes, adhering to strict operating procedures, and accurately reporting all mileage, conditions, and issues using client-based reporting tools.

Test Driver Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate project vehicles on public roads following planned routes, defined driving profiles, and scheduled test times provided by TPG.
  • Follow all assigned routes as displayed on the vehicle's GPS. Drivers must be able to manipulate and load route links via mobile phone.
  • Alternate between different assigned driver profiles as required by the project.
  • Ensure continuous testing unless prevented by safety concerns or vehicle failure.
  • Maintain vehicle operability and notify the client immediately of any major issues, route deviations, or environmental conditions affecting testing.
  • If route modifications are required due to force majeure, provide detailed information to the client for route percentage re-evaluation.

Daily Operations

Perform the required operational sequence every shift:

  • Conduct a full vehicle safety inspection (tire pressure, fluid levels, general condition).
  • Execute the data logger start-up procedure and monitor logger behavior throughout the shift.
  • Follow the assigned driving route accurately.
  • Assist the co-driver (if present) in tagging relevant events and observations during the route.
  • At the end of the shift, copy data from the logger's hard drive to an external hard drive (as required).
  • Submit daily mileage, route observations, and comments using the client's software tool Dursuite (mandatory).
  • Follow all client data-management procedures precisely.


Schedule:

  • 1st shift: 4:30am - 2:30pm
  • 2nd shift: 2:30pm - 1:00am
  • 4 on 3 off alternating weeks (3 on 4 off)

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle systems and functions.
  • Strong data aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Clean driving record
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license for a minimum of 3 years.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Able to complete at a minimum of 90% of test route daily
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
  • Take appropriate precautions during adverse weather (e.g., stopping in a safe location during storms).
  • Select safe alternative routes when faced with unexpected road conditions and promptly inform client.
  • Prioritize vehicle and occupant safety at all times.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

  • Able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, twist, and squat.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoors and in garages.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.

Important Items:

  • Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug-free and successfully pass drug screening prior to employment.
