The Test Technician provides test services to support the operation and maintenance of substation and electrical equipment with direction from a Test Supervisor, Project Test Specialist, Test Specialist or Test Engineer. This position is a four (4) step progression that provides the experience and training necessary for an incumbent to be eligible for advancement to the Test Specialist classification

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology OR associate's degree in electrical engineering or electrical technology OR formal education equivalent to an associate's degree in math and science are required. Individual must hold a valid motor vehicle license. Individual will have to stand on call assignments. Also desirable:

Strong knowledge of and experience with transmission protection devices such as or similar to: carrier communication equipment, electro-mechanical and microprocessor relays, electrical protection principles and theories, electronic and computer controlled systems and devices, computer networking techniques and methods, National Electrical and National Electrical Safety Codes, relay and control operational and safety procedures, designing testing systems and equipment, strong organizational skills, utilizing interpersonal skills to communicate with coworkers, supervisor, etc.

1. Performs power factor and breaker timing tests.
2. Analyzes and interprets test results and presents findings for review.
3. Performs basic relay testing.
4. Performs technical calculations for test applications.
5. Performs cable proof tests.
6. Performs cable locating and fault locating services.
7. Assists with the installation and testing of mobile transformers.
8. Locates sources of radio and television interference.

9. Performs prescribed tests on underground network protectors.
10. Performs and supports the troubleshooting, repairing, and testing of electrical devices such as recloser controls, battery chargers, voltage regulators, etc.
11. Adjusts and repairs substation recording and indicating meters other than watt hour meters.
12. Assists with substation modifications.
13. Assists with power quality investigations

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Test Technician(Steps 1-4): This is a four-step progression which provides the experience and training foran incumbent to be eligible for advancement to Test

Specialist. The selected candidate will be slotted atthe appropriate level based upon their education/experience. No experience is required for level
1. Under direct supervision, individual provides test services to support the operation and maintenanceof substation electrical equipment. Individual will provide test services to support the operation,maintenance, and construction of substation and electrical equipment with direction from Test Supervisor,
Project Test Specialist or Test Specialist. Primary duties of the Test Technician include but arenot limited to perform the following tests - power factor insulation testing, breaker timing testing, analyzeand interpret test results and present findings for review; basicprotection relay testing; technical calculations for test applications. Individual will also assist with annualtransmission line telecommunications testing.

Bargaining unit employees with contractual rights to this position will be given first consideration.
