Phlebotomist
Evergreen Family Medicine is committed to providing excellent care for your family with clinics in Roseburg, Sutherlin and Myrtle Creek Oregon. Evergreen Family Medicine serves outpatient needs, including Urgent Care, Family Practice, Women's Health, Occupational Health, and school-based telehealth.
Evergreen Family Medicine is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates that are offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
The Phlebotomists is responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills to ensure accurate specimen collection while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Specimen Collection
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary (finger or heel stick) procedures to obtain blood samples
  • Collect urine or other specimens as required following established protocols

Patient Care & Communication
  • Greet patients professionally and verify patient identity using approved identifiers
  • Explain procedures clearly and calmly to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation
  • Provide compassionate care to patients of all ages, including children and individuals with special needs

Sample Management
  • Accurately label, process, store, and transport specimens to the laboratory
  • Ensure specimen integrity by following proper handling and chain-of-custody procedures

Safety & Sanitization
  • Maintain a clean, sterile, and organized work environment
  • Follow infection control standards and OSHA regulations
  • Safely dispose of needles, sharps, and biohazardous waste

Documentation
  • Accurately enter patient information, test codes, collection times, and other required data into electronic or paper systems

Additional Responsibilities
  • Obtain and record vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse, as required
  • Assist with training or mentoring new staff
  • Monitor and restock supplies and report inventory needs

Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • Phlebotomy certification required
  • Knowledge of venipuncture and capillary collection techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory tests and specimen requirements
  • Understanding how medications, diet, or medical conditions may affect test results
  • Strong communication skills with a patient-focused approach
  • Empathy, patience, and professionalism when working with anxious or nervous individuals

Physical requirements:
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • May be exposed to patients with infectious diseases.
  • Must be able to lift up to (10 pounds) pounds at times.
