Job description

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications, logistics and warehouses.
We are seeking a hands-on Test Engineering Manager to be part of our future, as we continue to lead the world in robotic innovation. The Hardware Test Engineering Manager will be working side-by-side with our hardware design engineers to test, validate, and qualify both hardware and firmware.
Day to day activities:
  • Lead a small team of test engineers
  • Architect and develop Python code and code infrastructure
  • Develop test strategies for hardware and firmware validation
  • Perform data analysis, root cause issues and suggest design improvements
  • Design and build test fixtures
  • Carry out DVT, reliability testing and compliance testing
  • Be a vocal proponent for quality, both internally and as a representative of our company
  • Create and modify scripts to iterate testing procedures
  • Be happy to travel to off-site facilities (10%)

Desired skills:
  • Typically requires 8+ years of experience in electrical test engineering
  • 2-4 years in informal or formal technical leadership or people management roles.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building and debugging electro-mechanical test setups
  • Familiarity with different forms of test including HALT, HASS, HIL, EVT, DVT
  • Experience with functional safety
  • Experience with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, programmable loads, thermal probes
  • Experience with compliance testing including conducted/radiated emissions and safety
  • Experience with Python, and command-line operations in a UNIX-like OS
  • Experience with communication interfaces, e.g. CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C
  • Be able to multitask, and change priorities quickly as needed
  • Be able to clearly communicate test results and data

Nice to have:
  • Familiarity with motor drives
  • Familiarity with position encoder and force sensor technology
  • Familiarity with low-level embedded firmware [C/C++]
  • Familiarity testing high-speed interfaces
  • Experience working with robots and/or robotic systems.
  • Experience with DFMEA and HALT

The base pay range for this position is between $151,284.34 to $208,015.97 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
