Karman Space & Defense is a recognized leader in advanced composite and polymer manufacturing. Building on decades of research and development, our team pioneered the SCRIMPยฎ Resin Infusion Molding Process, which continues to support the manufacturing of a wide range of specialized products.
As a critical supplier to the United States Navy, Karman Space & Defense develops and manufactures products supporting submarine fleet programs, new construction, and fleet maintenance. Our engineers and production teams contribute throughout the product lifecycle-from initial development through final delivery. Our Gulfport facility maintains an AS9100-certified Quality Management System.
Engineers at Karman Space & Defense have the latitude to work in resource focused groups and product teams. Our Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), typically include Engineering, Program Management, Quality, Logistics, and Production.
Karman Space & Defense has an opening for an Engineer II at our facility in Gulfport, MS. The work will include interfacing with other engineers, and IPT members toward accomplishing the project objectives.
Typical duties of an Engineer II include product development, tooling development, and manufacturing support. The primary CAD tool is SolidWorks for both modeling and drawing development; experience with this software tool is certainly a plus.

Shift: Monday - Thursday, 6:00am- 4:30pm
Job Requirements:
  • Typically has 3 to 6 years of experience performing similar duties
  • Bachelor of Science in Composites, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Chemical, Aerospace, or other related engineering degree, such as Naval Architecture
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • United States Citizenship or Green Card Status is required.
  • Assigned several program duties simultaneously across disciplines
  • May be a Product Owner of a project
  • Author manufacturing work instructions, inspection procedures, white papers, monthly reports, etc. with oversight from supervisor
  • Design Parts and Fixtures with oversight from supervisor
  • Provide input as needed on proposals, schedules, budgets and other programmatic deliverables
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Working knowledge and participate in entire production process: drawing reviews, requirements matrixes, tool design, drafting, procurement, work instructions, machining, inspections, objective quality evidence
  • Limited Interfaces with customers and subcontractors
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance
  • Proof of US Citizenship and/or authorized to work in the US. Due to the nature of our work, United States Citizenship, is required

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Good Oral and written communication skills
  • SolidWorks 3D modeling and 2D drawings
  • Internship or Cooperative experience is a plus
  • Technical writing
  • Hands on fabrication experience

Essential Physical Requirement:
Working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, stretching, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.
You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms. Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty. Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends. At times, the ability to work overtime also may be required but it is not usual.
