Engineer Intern Opportunity - Engineering Resource Development Program (ERDP)
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has a vacancy within the Engineering Resource Development Program (ERDP) located in the Training and Technology Transfer Section. This position provides entry-level engineering experience for recent graduates while working toward professional licensure.
This position operates in a structured, training-focused environment where Engineer Interns apply engineering theory to field, office, and laboratory work supporting DOTD transportation programs. Under the supervision of experienced engineers, incumbents gain practical experience while performing a variety of routine engineering tasks.
About the ERDP Program
DOTD's Engineering Resource Development Program (ERDP) is a structured training and professional development program designed to prepare engineering graduates for long-term careers in public service. Participants receive exposure to multiple engineering disciplines, hands-on project experience, and mentorship to support successful progression toward licensure.

We are seeking candidates who are eager to learn, dependable, and interested in applying engineering principles in a practical setting. Successful candidates demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively while receiving close technical supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Under close supervision from a higher-level engineer, the Engineer Intern may:
  • Apply basic engineering principles and formulas to routine calculations
  • Assist with inspection, construction, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure
  • Support laboratory, field, or office engineering activities
  • Collect and analyze samples for testing and evaluation
  • Assist in cost analyses and economic justification studies
  • Participate in training and professional development activities
  • Assist in the supervision or coordination of technical staff as appropriate

Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, or Engineer Intern 2
Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty
Compensation: This position has Special Entrance Rates.
Engineer Intern 1 - $2,115.20/biweekly
Engineer Intern 2 - $2,263.20/biweekly
Upcoming Graduates: Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree. If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation. The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire.
