SFMC Developer, Marketing Automation – Marketing

Role Overview

The SFMC Developer is a hands-on execution role responsible for the day-to-day development, deployment, and optimization of marketing campaigns and automated patient journeys within Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC). This individual will own campaign execution end-to-end; building emails, configuring journeys, writing queries, troubleshooting issues, and supporting ticket-based platform requests. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, sprint-based environment where reliable, high-quality execution is the expectation.

Heartland Dental is the nation's largest dental support organization, providing non-clinical administrative support services to more than 3,000 supported doctors across 39 states and the District of Columbia in 1,900+ dental offices. Each Heartland Dental supported office is unique to the community and the patients they serve. Supported doctors are the clinical leaders of their practice, retain full clinical autonomy, and establish their own care philosophies. All Heartland Dental supported doctors are united by a common goal: delivering the highest quality dental care and patient experiences.

This role reports to the Senior Manager of Marketing Operations and works with our Salesforce development team.

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities you would take on in this role:

  • Configure and QA automated journeys (splits, triggers, multi-channel touchpoints).
  • Execute testing strategies (A/B, STO, Path Optimizer) to improve performance.
  • Support audience segmentation using SQL and Data Extensions.
  1. Platform Support & Ticket-Based Work
  • Triage and resolve support tickets.
  • Monitor deliverability and address bounces, spam risks, and sender reputation.
  • Maintain data hygiene (suppression lists, unsubscribes, data integrity).
  • Support preference center to ensure opt-ins/outs are captured and applied.
  1. Enhancements & Optimization
  • Execute roadmap-driven enhancements, including data integrations, dynamic content, and journey expansions.
  • Develop advanced personalization and functionality using AMPscript, SSJS, and Cloud Pages.
  • Document platform architecture, data models, journey configurations, and operational runbooks.
  1. Collaboration & Agile Delivery
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and manage work in Jira.
  • Estimate, plan, and deliver against sprint commitments.
  • Partner with product on complex builds and architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure data readiness and on-time delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 3–5 years hands-on SFMC experience.
  • Proficiency in AMPscript, SQL, HTML/CSS, SSJS.
  • Experience with Data Extensions, segmentation, and automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with APIs and Agile tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Strong problem-solving, QA mindset, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable Qualifications

  • SFMC certifications.
  • Experience with deliverability best practices (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • Familiarity with GCP/BigQuery integrations.
  • Experience with dynamic content at scale and multi-brand templates.
  • SMS compliance knowledge (TCPA, 10DLC).
  • Understanding of privacy regulations (HIPAA, CAN-SPAM).
  • Experience with CDPs (e.g., Salesforce Data Cloud).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
