Job description

Job Summary:
Tesla is seeking an OT Security Engineer to lead and execute production and field OT security for Tesla Energy at Giga Buffalo, New York. This role focuses on securing manufacturing environments that support the production of Energy systems, working closely with various engineering and IT teams to mitigate security risks while ensuring operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Execute OT security assessments and remediation across: Powerwall manufacturing and test lines. Megapack manufacturing environments. Solar Roof and Solar Panel manufacturing systems
• Drive OT vulnerability management, patching, and firmware lifecycle activities for: PLCs, HMIs, industrial PCs, test systems, and power electronics adjacent controllers
• Utilize Claroty for: Passive OT asset discovery and continuous monitoring. Approved active validation and configuration verification. Vulnerability identification, prioritization, and remediation tracking. Supporting detection of anomalous behavior across Energy factory environments
• Partner with Controls Engineering and IT Manufacturing to harden: PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems. Manufacturing and facility OT network architectures, segmentation, and access models
• Support secure remote access architectures for: Vendors, integrators, engineers, and support teams
• Contribute to equipment and robotics security hardening initiatives, including: Credential and access management. Firmware and configuration baselines. USB and removable media controls. Controller and test station lockdown strategies
• Support OT incident response, investigations, and recovery impacting Energy manufacturing systems
• Enable secure onboarding of new Energy manufacturing tooling, vendors, test equipment, and production lines
• Participate in threat modeling and architecture reviews for Energy manufacturing, control, and field connected OT systems
• Support backup, resilience, and recovery initiatives for critical Energy manufacturing and control infrastructure
Qualifications:
Required:
• 2+ years of experience in OT, ICS, SCADA, or manufacturing security environments
• Hands‑on experience securing industrial automation in production settings
• Strong working knowledge of PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff preferred)
• Practical experience with Claroty or similar OT security platforms
• Familiarity with OT protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and related industrial networking
• Experience implementing or supporting secure remote access for OT environments
• Proven experience executing remediation in uptime‑critical manufacturing systems
• Exposure to OT incident response and operational recovery activities
• Familiarity with SIEM integration and security telemetry (Splunk preferred)
Preferred:
• Security certifications are a plus
• Real‑world factory and Energy systems experience is highly valued
