Job description

FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER
There is one (1) position available. This recruitment is open until filled.
Hourly Rate: $25.21 - $28.21 per hour, depending on experience
Hours of Work: Incumbents in this position will work up to 40 hours per week for six (6) months; actual schedule may vary based on work assignment
Incumbents are non-benefited temporary laborers performing skilled maintenance work for the City. Work direction is provided by assigned supervisor or designee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist facilities maintenance staff in the maintenance and repair of city facilities including, but not limited to, framing and drywall installation and repair. Preparing surfaces for painting, painting interior and exterior walls, ceilings, and other surfaces as required, Pressure wash flat concrete surfaces, exterior walls, stairs and other surfaces as required. Perform roof maintenance and repairs clean roof surfaces, clean gutters and down spouts, repair or replace roofing components as needed. Install furniture as required and assist with room set ups for special events. Diagnose, repair or replace commercial flush valves, faucets and sinks clear clogged drains, toilets, sinks, scuppers and downspouts. Install lamps and ballasts, replace lights switches and receptacles as needed. Repair or replace lock sets, door hinges, and door closers. Install windows, window and door seals. Assist with completion of daily work orders and remodel projects as needed.
Must be able to work independently or in a team environment. Safely operate aerial lifts gas powered pressure washers, paint sprayers, electric power tools and standard hand tools and meters. Must be able to operate a standard size pick up or van with standard hand and brake controls.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have a valid Washington State Driver's License and must be able to verify employment eligibility at time of hire; must have high school diploma or equivalent; must successfully pass the City's pre-employment substance abuse screening and driving record check; and must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants are subject to a position-relevant background check.
Temporary employees with the City of Kent do not receive insurance or time off benefits outside of those which are legally mandated. In certain instances, temporary employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the State of Washington's Department of Retirement Systems.
