Job Summary
The Markovitz laboratory is in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine. The laboratory is located in the North Campus Research Complex, and is part of a vital and collaborative scientific community. The laboratory is currently small but has many collaborators at Michigan and in other institutions world-wide as the work of the lab is very cross-disciplinary. The theme of the research group is the interaction of viruses and cells, leading to interests in virology, cancer, immunity, and autoimmunity.
Responsibilities*
  • The lab assistant will be working on two different projects.
    • (1) Determination of the anti-cancer activities of the modified Banana Lectin H84T and
    • (2) To determine the role of DEK protein in Collagen-induced arthritis and UV-B indued lupus models of autoimmunity.
  • As a lab assistant the person will be responsible for assisting lab members in the lab members with mouse dissections, isolation and purification of various cells like B cells, neutrophils macrophages etc from mouse tissues like bone marrow, spleen and kidneys and lungs.
  • Sample preparation for microscopy and flow cytometry.
  • ELISA - Enzyme linked immunosorbent assays. ELISpot- Enzyme-linked ImmunoSpot assays.
  • Western analysis of proteins, immunoprecipitations etc.
  • PCR based genotyping of mice. qRT_PCR of genes. Cell culture for in vitro function assays etc.

Required Qualifications*
  • Should have at least finished high school and preferably freshman year of college.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Potentially pursuing a major degree in molecular biology-premed track.

Additional Information
Full-time onsite work, with exposure to animal research. Candidate should be open to working and handling live mice.
