POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW
The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking highly qualified Temporary Creative, Artistic, and Production Staff to join its Production team. Reporting to the Vice Dean of Performing Arts and leadership of the Production & Performance Operations team, the College of Performing Arts' Temporary Creative, Artistic, and Production Staff are directly responsible for providing high-quality, professional theatrical services that guarantee the success of the College's curricular productions.
Temporary Creative, Artistic, and Production Staff shape and execute the artistic vision of their assigned productions. They coordinate design, staging, and technical elements to ensure rehearsals and performances run smoothly. Through close collaboration with our students, staff, and faculty, Temporary Creative, Artistic, and Production Staff maintain consistency in artistic quality throughout all stages of the production process.
Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. College of Performing Arts students are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Our community collaborates with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.
This position does not have regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Production department. Temporary Creative, Artistic, and Production Staff will receive a Memorandum of Understanding, outlining the terms and conditions for all services they are scheduled for.
CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide creative and/or logistical support to curricular theatrical productions as assigned.
  • Ensure any relevant deliverables are generated meeting the Production's deadlines
  • Coordinate with department heads and leadership as necessary.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders, attending all required meetings.
  • Additional responsibilities, expectations, and deadlines tailored to each individual engagement will be outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience in theatrical production, stage management, design, direction, or related support roles.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Knowledge of standard theatrical practices, safety protocols, and production workflows.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience working in academic or higher education environments

WORK MODE
This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement.
Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.
SALARY RANGE
$25.00-$50.00/hour, dependent upon the nature of the engagement
