Job Summary
Responsible for maintaining a caseload of students-athletes to enhance academic strategy development and support student success. The Student Athlete Success Specialist encourages achievement of goals through self-assessment, reflection and connection to campus and community resources with a goal of graduation. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in social work, psychology, counseling and education.
  • One (1) year of experience in academic support services in an educational or non-profit setting. Experience can be in advising, mentoring, tutoring, student programming or student services.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education or related field.
  • One (1) year experience in higher education retention programs.
  • Experience using an online student engagement system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Ability to increase persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
  • Ability to creatively motivate, empower, and recognize students.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and have a "Customer Focus" attitude and delivery.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work as an individual contributor and an effective team player.
  • Possess the ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and tackle emergencies and difficult situations.
  • Possess negotiation and conflict resolution skills to address issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Knowledge of utilizing social media network communications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint
